Loews Ventana is an award-winning design resort, nestled against the Catalina
Mountains. Considered to be the best in Tucson, the resort has a modern design that
merges with the nature. It was even called by Architectural Digest, "First
environmentally conceived resortin North America."
The two-story magnificent lobby is decorated with extraordinary sculptures, paintings,
and ceramic works of arts done by Arizona artists. Afternoon tea is served in the
Cascade Lounge,also by the lobby area. We were seated by the glass wall, overlooking
the mountains and the swimming pool. White crisp linens covered the tables and
limoges china were present - the combination would prove to be a lavish affair. A tea
cart was then rolled beside our table and the hostess poured hot water in the teapot
with the tea leaves of your choice. This process was quite interesting to watch, since it
was new to me. A selection of finger sandwiches arrived, such as smoked salmon with
creme fraiche on pumpernickel bread, egg salad on wheat bread and cucumber
sandwich. This was followed by freshly baked scones with fruit jams and clotted
cream. Lastly, we devoured sweet treats, such as the linzer torte, swan puffs with
cream, and lemon tartlettes. Savoring the scrumptious English tradition is very
addictive indeed. With the excellent service, the quality of the presentation, and the
ambience, it is easy to forget where you are. Asa reminder, just look up the copper
chandeliers, and you will remember that you arestill in the desert.
