Ritz Carlton, Battery Park
Ideal for afternoon tea, this splendid new skyscraper
is the first waterfront luxury hotel of the financial
district Battery Park. The hotel has a vantage view  of
the New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty.

We were warmly greeted by the door staff; we felt
very welcome the moment we entered the door. The
elegant contemporary decor  diverges from the Ritz-
Carlton standard.  New Yorker artists were commis-
sioned to do the many brilliant artworks that can be
found throughout the hotel.

The extended English tradition is served in the upscale,
relaxed Lobby Lounge.  We were seated by the tall glass
window; perfect for outdoor viewing. It was hard for us to
believe that we were actually in downtown Manhattan.
We focused on our menu and  I decided on the Ritz
Carlton Blue Sapphire, the  house blend, as my tea
choice. My companion had spiced orange, an aromatic
blend of orange and cinnamon. The teapots arrived,
along with special Wedgewood china of mixed designs.
This was then followed by the traditional servings of
assorted mini tea sandwiches, along with tea breads,
including banana nut and lemon poppy. Since the
scrumptious scones were still warm, we decided to eat
them first with the devonshire cream, lemon curd, and
raspberry coulis. The heavenly mini pastries served were
fruit tarts, opera cakes, and chocolate mousse. The pot
de creme with pistacchio and vanilla was a delightful
addition in the entire serving.

Aside from Traditional Tea, the Ritz-Carlton of Battery
Park also offers Power Tea.  It is best described as a
masculine alternative for those who think traditional
afternoon tea is only for the feminine crowd. Power Tea
includes a selection of tea with a choice of house-infused
vodka.  There is a mini brioche sandwich with smoked
trout and apple slaw, crock of foie gras spread on toasted
country walnut bread, steak tartare with gaufrette
potato, and mini stilton cheese souffle.
For its elegant setting, excellent presentation,
unbeatable service, and delicious offerings, it would be
worth returning to the Ritz-Carlton, Battery Park   in
the future.
