It is truly  a dream, finally finding myself having
afternoon tea in a city where I thought afternoon
tea had not exist.

The Manila Peninsula, or as the Filipinos call it,
the Manila Pen, is one of the Premier Hotels for
visitors in Philippines. Built in 1976, the hotel
still exudes elegance.  The central room, the lobby, is
a soaring glass atrium.  The architectural features
create interest at every turn.  It pleased guests then
as much as it does today.

Climbing up along the curved elegant marble
staircase, we reach the Makati Side where afternoon
tea is served.  If one were to take a moment and look
over sprawling space of the Lobby, one would see the
level of grandeur achieved.  Being here in the Manila
Peninsula where social elite and politicians gather
gives you a feeling of understanding why this place is
a "hot spot" in the country.

We were seated overlooking the lobby.  Since it was
the first time my sisters had participated in a tea
event, I ordered for them and explained the concept of
afternoon tea as delights would arrive to our table.
The setting was elegant with garden motiff china.  The
service was perfection.  It was very traditional, down
to the crisp linens.  Aside from regular tea choices,
they also offered caffeine-free and herbal teas.  There
were three types of tea sandwiches, and colorful
pastries and scones with devonshire cream and fruit
preserves completed the presentation.

Tea is serve 2:30 to 5:00 PM.  I recommend not
leaving right away.... sit back and relax to the
alternating sounds of the string ensemble and jazz
from 6:00 PM onwards.
