Formerly known as the St. Moritz Hotel,
the Ritz Carlton hotel was recently opened
in May of 2002. It is now one of the most
elegant hotels in New York and offers
modern luxury and classic elegance.
Visiting the Star Lounge is just like having
tea in one of the luxurious residences in
New York. The lounge is furnished
opulently and the setting provides a relaxed
and comfortable atmosphere; yet, the
ambience is lush.
During our visit, the scene was covered in
sunflowers, which complemented the decor.
We started out with the choice of tea, which
included the T-Blend, a combination of
ceylon, darjeeling and jasmine. They also
offered Herbal Infusions: Nobo Whole
Fruit, Lemon Verbena, and Harmony
(consisting of peppermint leaves,
chamomile, flowers, and allspice). This was
then followed by tiers of tea sandwiches
(smoked salmon with creme fraiche and
caviar, crab and lemon-filled eclairs on a
chive baton, egg salad and tomato on
brioche, and classic cucumber with mustard
mayonnaise and prociutto with fig chutney),
homemade scones served with fruit
preserves and clotted cream, and the petit
fours. All of this was served on beautiful
china. While indulging ourselves in these
delightful repasts, we also had the luxury of
listening to the harpist as well. The whole
ceremony was a delight to our senses, and
as expected, the service was superior.
